ThriveHer began in a hospital ward.
After my first child was born by emergency C-section, I experienced what happens when care loses its sensitivity. My catheter was removed too soon, leaving me in pain and discomfort. Basic dignity was hard to come by, with modesty overlooked, privacy ignored, and decisions made without listening.
As both a patient and a doctor, I saw the system from the other side, how even within the NHS, compassion can slip through the cracks. Reviews were missed, antibiotics delayed, and male staff entered without consideration of the breastfeeding women.
Days passed before another Muslim nurse finally listened and took action, a reminder that empathy still exists, even within a system stretched thin.
It wasn't just about me. It was about what this revealed: if this could happen to a clinician who knew how to speak up, what about the women who can't, those with no English, no medical background, and no one to advocate for them?
That moment changed everything.
ThriveHer was born from that experience, a doctor-led, faith and culturally informed movement that brings evidence, empathy, and equity back into women's health. A bridge between hospitals and the communities too often left behind. A place where all ethnically diverse women, starting with Muslim, South Asian and Black women, are seen, heard, and treated with dignity.
Across the UK, all ethnically diverse women, starting with Muslim, South Asian and Black women, face higher risks in pregnancy and longer delays in diagnosis for menopause, PCOS, and endometriosis.
Too many stories echo the same pain:
"They didn't believe me."
"They spoke over me."
"I felt unseen in my own care."
ThriveHer exists so that no ethnically diverse woman, starting with Muslim, South Asian and Black women, is left to suffer in silence.
A world where being from an ethnically diverse background, being Muslim, South Asian, being Black, or being from a minority background never means receiving lesser care.
Where medicine speaks every woman's language — of faith, of culture, of humanity.
Where healthcare becomes prevention, not crisis.
Because when women are trusted, communities heal.
When communities are heard, systems change.
And when systems change, everyone thrives.
Together with mosques, universities, NHS neighbourhoods, and global partners, ThriveHer is redefining what equity in women's health looks like.

The NHS is integrating menopause into the national Health Check. Yet engagement remains lowest among ethnic-minority and faith-based women. ThriveHer bridges this gap through culturally and faith-aware education, screening, and early-risk assessment.
